Imelda is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Texas with several years of experience working primarily with adults diagnosed with mental health illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, and anxiety disorders. My approach
I believe in treating the mind, body, and soul/spirit. My approach is to partner with clients to improve their quality of life and help them overcome the barriers and stigma associated with having a mental health diagnosis. I draw upon modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Trauma Focused Therapy.
My focus
I work with adult individuals on a range of issues including anxiety, bipolar disorder, coping skills, depression, emotional disturbance, grief, infidelity, job stress, life transitions, mood disorders, relationship issues, self-esteem, spirituality, stress, suicidal ideation, trauma and PTSD, and women's issues. I have experience with older adults as well.
My communication style
I strive to provide a judgment-free atmosphere where you can speak freely. I offer a partnership in the treatment process and guidance in counseling. My communication style is compassionate, non-judgmental, and focused on helping you make positive changes.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist after witnessing the struggles people face when dealing with mental health issues and stigma. My experience as an Army Veteran and medical social worker for over five years shaped my holistic approach to improving mind, body, and spirit. I earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Southwest Texas State University.
My goals for you
My goal is to help you overcome challenges, develop greater self-understanding, build healthy coping skills, and improve your overall well-being and quality of life. I want to provide a safe space for you to openly express yourself and make meaningful progress through our work together.
My first session with you
In our first session, I will focus on getting to know you, understanding your background, and what brings you to therapy. We will discuss your goals and what you hope to achieve through our work together. I aim to build trust and rapport from the very start so you feel comfortable opening up to me. We will begin to develop a plan for treatment tailored to your specific needs.
