Hi there, I'm Cynthia!

My name is Cynthia Kemp, LPC, currently work as a licensed practitioner of the healing arts at a mental health clinic and have worked there for the last 4 years. I have six years of clinical experience and have worked in IOP and PHP settings. In addition, I have 16 years of working with students with disabilities such as Learning Disabled, Emotionally Disturbed, ADHD, and IDD.

My approach

My approach is nonjudgmental and accepting of all individuals that I talk with as we build an alliance to work together. I realize that each individual is different, and I need to adjust treatment to fit that unique individual. practice from several models dependent upon the needs of the client. Listed are the most common approaches that I use for treatment: Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Person-Centered, Supportive Therapy

My focus

I have not found my ideal client yet.

My communication style

I strive to have direct, clear, and positive communication that will assist in confirming treatment goals, and encourage and provide feedback. When communicating with clients my tone is optimistic, my manner is positive and active listening helps me to draw out details.

My journey to mental healthcare

My educational experience in the classroom led me to therapy. I was a Special Education Teacher for 16 years, working with different disabilities. I received much joy in working with special needs children but needed to find another direction. I did some research and pursued the path of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. I had already secured a Master's in Counseling while teaching. My internship included working in different settings, such as the Intensive Outpatient Program and Partial Hospitalization Programs.

My goals for you

Successful care and progress would include a client learning and practicing new coping methods. They would continue to make positive and healthy changes in behavior and learn to take better care of themselves. They will have learned how to communicate their feelings, wants, and needs. They will continue to strive to understand their emotions better and will have figured out what they need to live their best life.

My first session with you

The initial visit is a period to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. The visit would also include the Initial assessment and forming an alliance with the client.
