Hi! I am Helen, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. I use a person-centered approach to therapy where I meet you where you are at with your mental health. I strive to give you a sense of hope and well-being in our sessions together.
My approach
As your therapist, I will hold a safe, open-minded, and judgment-free space for you. I use an eclectic approach of modalities during treatment. I incorporate CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Coaching, Rogerian approach along with other modalities I feel will help in your session.
My focus
Having worked in community mental health, I have gained experience in treating a variety of mental conditions. Some areas include anxiety, depression, grief, anger management, divorce, relationship issues, and life transitions. I also have experience working with survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking. I feel that the experience I have gained has laid a solid foundation for treating and supporting those experiencing difficulty with their mental health.
My communication style
I create an environment that feels warm, judgment-free, and safe. I hold space for the feelings my clients express. Sometimes there are lots of laughs and humor involved. Other times, there are tears and tissues involved. Regardless of what feelings are being felt, I hold space for you to release, process, and evaluate what you are feeling. I strive to instill hope when you are feeling down and I celebrate the successes with you when you have them. I am here to support you and your well-being.
My journey to mental healthcare
When my marriage ended, I was left feeling hopeless and defeated. That was when I had my first experience with therapy. I had a wonderful therapist whom I grew to trust that helped me rebuild my life. Through that experience, I was inspired to become a therapist so that I could help others find hope and a sense of well-being. Life is not meant to be lived alone. We need community and support. Working with my clients and witnessing them improve their lives is what inspires me as a therapist. I truly enjoy my time with each of my clients and feel honored I am allowed in this type of space with them.
My goals for you
I like to get to know my clients and what areas of strengths and weaknesses they have. Then, I like to work alongside my clients in developing short-term and long-term goals. I see my role as being in the passenger seat of a car. My clients are the driver and I am the passenger. My role is to assist in guiding them where they want to go. Ultimately, it is my clients' responsibility and role to make and carry out their goals much as it is the driver's role to drive to their destination.
My first session with you
Our first session will be spent getting to know each other and building rapport. It is important to me that you feel comfortable and safe in our session. I want you to have a space where you can share your feelings and feel validated. My hope is that you leave your session feeling better than when you started.
