My name is Bonnie Galvan and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas and New Mexico. I have been licensed in social work, chemical dependency and have worked in both fields for 19 years. I focus on person-centered solutions for universal problems as we all need help at some point in our lives.
My approach
I am down to earth and easy to talk to. I focus on the issues at hand at what short-term and long-term solutions can be harnessed to get a positive result. I am direct and focused on a person-centered approach with a reality therapy technique as I believe honesty and being realistic is a good ways to start to feel better. Life happens to all of us and so we need a clear and different perspective to get us back on the right path.
My focus
I'm almost 20 years I have worked with a variety of diverse populations. I have worked with adolescents and youth, the homeless population, with victims of domestic and partner violence, HIV/ AIDS patients, couples, the Incarcerated and am comfortable and supportive of the LGBTQI community with appreciation and respect for people of all colors, genders, sexual orientations and nationalities. I have had people from A-Z and am comfortable and culturally competent to help anyone.
My communication style
It feels real to work with me, with clarity and directive language. I won't just sit and listen but will challenge you to find modern-day solutions. Reality therapy is identifying the reality of our situation without feeling pity for someone, pointing things out without avoiding the truth. People who are ready to work, accept their reality and are consequently ready to change will work readily with me.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was going to be a writer with a few things published but after a summer job doing outreach while in college, I found my real calling in providing therapy and support to people in crisis. As an independent woman with a very challenging childhood, I understand the struggle and what it takes to work through it.
My goals for you
I work with my clients to first identify the problem and then working together, we set goals and find solutions together
My first session with you
During the first session, I like to get to know my clients with fact-finding questions that will help me understand why you believe you need therapy
