My name is Boisey Bristo, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Brain Injury Specialist based in Ft. Worth, Texas delivering services statewide using telehealth. I work with adolescents and adults and specialize in anxiety disorders, mood disorders, stress and adjustment challenges, trauma, culture and diversity, and brain injury. My counseling philosophy is, “every journey begins with the first step.”
My approach
I take an integrated approach to meeting clients where they are, based on their individual needs. My primary therapeutic principles are grounded in Person-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused strategies to help clients achieve insight and awareness, strengthen the mind-body connection, and establish a vision for wellness.
My focus
Most of my clients present with anxiety and depression. However, I have also worked with eating disorders, personality disorders, autism, substance abuse/addiction, and psychotic disorders. My focus is on helping the client achieve wellness through the process of acceptance and change.
My communication style
My communication style is easy going, authentic, and empowering. I aim to create a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance with the client through compassion, empathy, active listening, and a non-judgmental approach.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist is a personal journey. As an African American I believe I have a unique understanding of the generational trauma that many Black Americans experience because of systematic oppression. I lost my stepfather to a drug overdose and two of my close friends are diagnosed with PTSD and Schizophrenia. Representation matters and I truly believe that being a therapist is my purpose and my way to serve my community. However, I welcome all who need support and guidance.
My goals for you
I believe goal setting is essential to guiding the therapeutic journey and should be in alignment with the client’s desired outcomes. Goals should be flexible and may evolve through the counseling process as clients grow and discover new aspects of their journey.
My first session with you
The initial session will primarily focus on developing the therapeutic alliance and establishing a foundation for the counseling process. Every client has a unique background and what works for one, may not work for the other, so the first session is about identifying what may work for you.
