I am Donna Shoop, Licensed Professional Counselor. I believe in helping a person learn to grow and learn to overcome any obstacles in their lives. I am very non-judgmental and caring when helping someone. I am a great listener. I help people find a purpose in their lives. I worked as a school counselor for over 25 years. I have been counseling individuals, families, and individuals since 2006. I was helped by a therapist, and I now want to help others.
My approach
I believe in working with a person where they are at the moment and helping them grow toward where they want to be. I am very successful with those who have experienced trauma, suffer from anxiety or depression, or need help accepting who they are. I have also been able to help couples learn to communicate and have loving relationships. I use CBT(cognitive behavioral therapy), a person-centered approach, and solution-focused therapy.
My focus
I will work with anyone who has a need and is willing to try new things to help improve their life. I like working with clients who want to grow and become the person that they have always wanted to be.
My communication style
I am a good listener. I am very empathetic and supportive. I try to make sure the client feels comfortable and that they are in a place. My tone is positive and uplifting. My demeanor is calm and caring.
My journey to mental healthcare
Having had many difficult times throughout my life, I sought help through therapy. My therapist helped me to be a better person. I became a therapist to help others like I was helped. I believe in "passing it on". It brings me extreme joy when I can help someone learn to become the person they were always meant to be. I trained to be able to help people change their mindset so they can change their lives.
My goals for you
The client will notice that they are becoming more positive in their thoughts. They will have more confidence and be willing to take steps to improve the things in their lives that are troubling them. They will be proud of their accomplishments.
My first session with you
In the first session, a client should be ready to share a lot of valuable information about themselves. The more information that is shared, the better a plan can be devised to help them achieve success. The session will be calm, positive, and comfortable for the client.
