Hi there, I'm Katie!

I am a compassionate and open-minded counselor who wants to know the real, authentic you. That way, we can better identify what is and isn't working in your life while pursuing productive change. I have worked in several clinical settings in my work, including a cancer hospital, a nursing home, an adoption agency, and a university. I have been a field instructor for Social Work students, and I have run support groups as well. I have worked with adults from the ages of 18 to 99, and I enjoy the process of getting to know someone's story and what really matters to them.

My approach

I enjoy the process of aligning with clients in order to help them move toward their goals and values. I primarily utilize an eclectic focus, tailoring each session to what suits you best. I tend to draw upon CBT, ACT, DBT, attachment-based therapy, MI, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, EFT, and IFS, and I welcome your input throughout the process.

My focus

I see clients who struggle with anxiety, depression, grief, loss, career decisions, life transitions, LGBTQ+ concerns, chronic illness, adoption, conflict, attachment needs, and relationship difficulties. With that said, each individual's experience is different, and I find that a person-centered approach is vital to the therapeutic process.

My communication style

My communication style is kind and empathic, and I work to listen to the subtext of what you are saying in our discussion. I strive to identify pieces that you may be overlooking and bring them to light so we can examine them together in an open, non-judgmental manner.

My journey to mental healthcare

When I was in the 8th grade, I knew I wanted to pursue counseling as a career. I deeply cared about people and their stories, and I wanted to help uncover these stories in my work. I obtained a BSW (Bachelor's in Social Work) and then attended graduate school to obtain my MSW (Master's in Social Work). I then received my Social Work licensure, and I began working in clinical settings after graduation in 2011. In 2016, I obtained my LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) licensure, and this allows me to provide counseling and diagnoses while working independently. I then attended supervisory training to receive my LCSW-S licensure; this enables me to supervise other social workers as they pursue their LCSW.

My goals for you

A successful therapeutic relationship starts with a good provider fit, and I want you to feel heard, seen, and understood in our sessions. I ask probing questions to get at the root of the issue while I work to better understand your experience. Progress can look like incremental changes, internally or externally, where you begin moving toward a life you find more fulfilling.

My first session with you

Our first session will include assessment questions where we discuss your current struggles, identifiable symptoms, safety concerns (if applicable), and relevant history. We touch on what is and isn't working, and we'll identify something you can reflect on or take action around in the coming week(s).
