My name is Mariel Chinouyazue-Mason M.Ed., LPC, NCC. I am a army veteran based in Texas. I work with adults that have experienced anxiety, depression, trauma, and abuse.
My approach
I believe therapy is a collaborative experience where client and therapist are partners in the therapeutic relationship. I am EMDR trained and I utilize person-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive-behavioral therapy to empower clients to make positive life choices.
My focus
I typically work with adults that have experienced anxiety, depression, trauma, and abuse. I also have experience working with veterans that have experienced MST and PTSD.
My communication style
I create a non-judgmental space where clients feel understood, supported, and accepted. To work with me is to feel you can express your thoughts, feelings, and feel empowered during and after the session.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was attracted to becoming a therapist Iike most others I wanted to help others. I especially became interested after seeing what other military members and veterans were experiencing. I was interested in the reasons behind people's behavior. What drives me to do this work is my belief in people and their ability to change. It feels good to help someone and to watch people’s progress as they grow.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting is to work collaboratively with the client. We discuss what the client wants out of therapy and I assist the client in setting their therapeutic goals. We check progress with achieving the goals as we continue therapy.
My first session with you
During our first session we will discuss what led you to therapy and discuss any previous therapy experiences you may have had in the past. The first session is to get information about your coping style and what you feel are the reasons you are not where you want to be. I believe the client knows themselves better than I do so I want to get to know who you are and work on establishing a relationship based on trust and respect.
