Hi there, I'm Irma!

Hello, my name is Irma Mendez. I am a Licensed Therapist in the state of Texas. I possess over 8 years of experience in mental health. As a clinician, I have the gift of exercising patience while providing my clients with a safe space where they can verbalize their concerns in a non-judgmental setting. I have experience working with populations of different ages. I genuinely believe that everyone has the ability to recover and thrive regardless of the daily challenges they are currently experiencing and facing.

My approach

I have a genuine interest in the mental and emotional well-being of my clients. I am open-minded and non-judgmental; I believe the client is the expert in their own challenges. I am a counselor exercising competency in counseling modalities such as CBT, Humanistic and Behavioral therapy. I have experience working with clients who are dealing with daily challenges, such as substance use and family issues, self-harming behaviors, and youth and adolescent problems.

My focus

I have worked with individuals who are facing everyday challenges such as adjustment issues, anger management problems, anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, suicidality, self-esteem, and body image issues.

My communication style

I am committed to providing a warm setting while also respecting the dignity of the client. I am culturally sensitive and respectful of the client's diversity and background. As a counselor, I will let the client know that I am compassionate and empathetic to their situation while guiding them through their struggles so that they can find a way through their situation.

My journey to mental healthcare

What led me to become a counselor is the strong desire to be able to assist people and help others with challenges they are dealing with in their daily lives. Active listening is one of the most important and valuable counseling skills in a therapeutic relationship. I am a good listener and have the gift of showing compassion and empathy toward the client. One of the best rewards of doing therapy is being able to have a direct impact on the emotional and mental well-being of the client. Counseling skills that I have learned over the years include and are not limited to the ability to practice silence, and empathy, build rapport with the client and help the client reflect and gain insight into their own issues.

My goals for you

Progress and success in therapy lead to positive changes, new skills being learned and implemented, a sense of acceptance, and a new outlook on life.

My first session with you

During our first session, you will be greeted warmly and explained the limits of confidentiality. I will ensure that the youth feel comfortable and safe while in session. You will be encouraged to ask questions and provide information regarding your concerns and history of problems. You will be assisted with exploring your own recovery goals, as you will always be the expert and decision-maker in your recovery.
