Hello, my name is Bill DeFelice. I am a master's degreed level mental health therapist in the state of Ohio. I am licensed with my LPCC-S. A secondary license that I have is an LICDC-CS. This enables me to treat clients who may be addicted to drugs. My focus areas of counseling are Mood Disorders (Depression, and Bi-Polar disorder), Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Family Counseling, Relationship Counseling and ADHD. My approach to counseling is to use the CBT approach. This is simply pointing out errors in thinking to a client and helping him/her develop rational and replacement thoughts.
My approach
I feel that everyone is redeemable. As stated above, I follow the CBT process to point out flaws in thinking as well as contradictions in behavior. This may have some client-centered therapy involved as well. It simply means for at least one session, we focus more on feelings instead of thoughts and behaviors.
My focus
The conditions I feel most comfortable treating are listed above. I would say that I work with less severe clients (acute) as opposed to chronic. This simply means that I want to get clients back into whatever state of independence they were living in before the current problems existed.
My communication style
I am very matter-of-fact and to the point. Some may call this blunt, I call it reality therapy or being real. I am very assertive in my therapy approach and definitely hold clients responsible for their lack of progress in therapy. I also have no difficulty giving clients a lot of credit and compliments if they are making progress in sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was originally a trained teacher at the middle and high school levels. The year I graduated, there were no full-time jobs available for my specialty. I realized that many of my clients at the time had mental health and substance issues. I wanted to have a better understanding as to why these disorders were so common and could easily derail a client, so I took an opportunity to go back to school and learn how to be a therapist. What drives me in this job is that I want to support others who are driven to improve whatever the negative situation in their life is.
My goals for you
Simple, I ask for the client's input. I compare it with what I think it should be. If there are any differences, I do my best to bring everything together into a treatment plan. If not, we try and decide which issues need the most attention.
My first session with you
Bring Dr. Pepper and Cracker Jacks, it should hopefully be an interesting session with learning and laughter being involved!!!!!
