Not currently accepting patients

Hi there, I'm Denise!

Hello and welcome! My name is Denise Alejandra Suncin and I am an LCSW practicing in New York. I strive to be person-centered while also thinking outside of the box in my therapy sessions; my areas of practice range from ABA with children under 3 and severe mental health issues in adults.

My approach

I would say that I am not your typical or conventional therapist. I believe that therapy has drastically changed from the standard textbook approach and therefore it is crucial to tailor sessions to patients/support clients through the most humanistic approach possible. I strive to be compassionate, open-minded, and transparent with unconditional positive regard. I tend to work with patients through CBT, MI, DBT, and psychodynamic approaches.

My focus

I am open to working with individuals 21 and over with any wide range of issues. My particular strong points are around mental health, trauma, addiction, loss, grief, and many others!

My communication style

I aim to be as transparent with my patients as possible. I genuinely care and am invested in my patients and therefore value the importance of open communication and honesty. I have a very personable/humanistic approach to working with others; in my sessions, you aren't a patient, but rather another individual exploring the different ways to improve your life.

My journey to mental healthcare

I decided to become a therapist as I watched my own family struggle with their mental health and the different cultural stigmas which prevented them from getting the support they needed. Being a woman of color and coming from a low-income family, I find it crucial to give back and break generational traumas which continue to impact our communities every day.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.

My first session with you

What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently, and me asking questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
