Hello, I am Catherine McLaughlin a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 20+ years. My work is a range of mental health diagnoses. Such as anxiety, depression, codependency, grief and substance abuse, and alcohol addiction. I consider myself a kind, empathic, "say it like it is " therapist. I have a sense of humor respectfully at times when needed.
My approach
Some of the therapeutic approaches I practice are humanistic, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic, and mindfulness. I start where the client is and go from there. My concerns are always for my clients first and foremost!
My focus
I work with mostly clients who suffer from anxiety, depression, and substance abuse issues. In addition, I work with clients who are grieving. I am very comfortable with working with many issues with clients but my practice is mainly focused on the above diagnosis.
My communication style
I work diligently with my clients to help them succeed in this journey and to focus on a better life and happiness through goal setting and education. Ethics and confidentiality are the highest priorities in my practice. It is not easy to bring oneself in for help. My welcome is always friendly and warm. I understand and appreciate how difficult it is to confide in a person you have just met. From my reviews in the past, I often hear most clients feel relaxed with my approach and "realness". Clients have reported they feel comfortable with the amount of interest and compassion I demonstrate to them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was introduced to this profession because of experiences I have lived through in my own life. Therapy has always been a favorite of mine and helped me. I felt a calling to help others with their problems and studied long and hard with life experience to pay it forward. I have never regretted one-second working as an LCSW.
My goals for you
Clients and I discuss what goals they are expecting immediately during our assessment. After each session, again we review how they would like to meet the goal in a timely manner. I introduce psycho-education to help the client bring their goals closer through understanding the diagnosis and issues they are experiencing. I also introduce tools for clients to gain self-help.
My first session with you
A professional, warm, honest, caring introduction. I explain confidentiality, the process of therapy, and the appointment setting so they are clear as to what is expected.
