Hello, My name is Elizabeth Chery, LCSW, and I am licensed in NY 008091. I purposefully incorporate multicultural concepts into each case because I feel culture greatly influences how we interact with those around us and can help us to define our strengths. I truly believe therapy is for everyone, but not every therapist is for every client. Therefore, I encourage open communication regarding the therapy process so clients can best overcome their obstacles.
My approach
I utilize various therapeutic approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. I have been providing psychotherapy for over 5+ years in various settings.
My focus
I have experience working with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, addiction, relationship concerns, and other life experiences. I believe that each person has their own story that has shaped what they are currently experiencing.
My communication style
Through my work, I strive to foster a safe space where clients can tell their stories, gain insight into how that has impacted them, and create a new reality that is more fulfilling.
My journey to mental healthcare
My personal journey as a therapist comes from dealing with my sister, who is mentally ill and experienced discrimination and stigma throughout her life. She shared her experiences and hardships and encouraged me to help others to live better lives.
My goals for you
I encourage my clients to set goals based on the issues that they find are most pertinent at the time. We try to set realistic goals that will improve their lives and foster greater well-being.
My first session with you
A first session would include getting to know my client by obtaining a psycho-social history, learning what are the stressors in one's life and setting realistic goals.
