Hi there! My name is Marissa Raskin, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York with over 12-plus years of experience working as a counselor/therapist. I received my undergrad in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University at Albany and hold a dual Master Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling. My therapy style is warm, empathetic, supportive and inclusive. I believe in treating anyone and everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels.
My approach
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
My focus
I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including substance use, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career/work challenges, and parenting problems. Some of my clients over the years have also suffered and experienced trauma/abuse and/or involved with the criminal justice system.
My communication style
By engaging in a client-centered approach, the individual is empowered and in charge of their journey, with support, guidance and understanding to move forward in a positive direction.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always had an inclination to want to understand people in order to help them with where they were at and where they wanted to go. To help the underdogs, those that may have had obstacles and challenges and still want to strive to do and feel better.
My goals for you
Discussing general, long term goals and breaking it down into short term/attainable goals. Discussing what areas are causing distress, identifying ways to ease the symptoms while working on the potential underlining concerns.
My first session with you
Overview of why they are presenting to treatment, what are potential expectations or hopes for entering treatment, goal setting.
