I have been an NC-licensed professional since 2001. I have a broad range of experience working with mental health and substance use disorders but am a trauma therapist at heart, committed to helping you realize the best version of yourself. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS), Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist (CTTS), Certified Clinical Military Counselor (CCMC), and National Certified Counselor (NCC). I enjoy working with adults of all ages. My training and experience working with trauma, mood disorders, grief/loss, anxiety, & life transitions equip me to help you with an array of specific issues or the "I'm not quite sure what's going on with me." It is a privilege to work with clients navigating the journey of healing and change. I bring along genuine compassion, skill, laughter, and the occasional bad joke while honoring the seriousness of your work and the courage to seek help.
My approach
My approach to therapy is eclectic, strengths-based, and reflects my belief that individuals and their experiences are unique. Counseling should be dynamic, person-centered, and not cookie-cutter. Some of the evidence-based practices I incorporate include EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Progressive Counting (PC), Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, and solution-focused interventions. I may assign homework &/or suggest external resources to aid recovery. Our work together will be collaborative and reflect your needs and goals.
My focus
I enjoy working with diverse groups of adults struggling to live the best version of themselves. Transformation is an active process and can be uncomfortable while learning new skills and strategies to better understand the emotional, behavioral, and physiological responses to life experiences. I provide a safe and caring "off-ramp" from the internal traffic jam.
My communication style
Effective communication is essential to the process and outcome of therapy. I am an active and empathetic listener. My communication style is warm, direct, and nonjudgmental. Good communication has a positive impact on the therapeutic relationship, and treatment goals, and helps repair any misunderstandings. I welcome and encourage feedback.
