My name is Liza Albidress and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW & LSCSW) providing online therapy to clients in Kansas, Missouri, and Idaho. As a therapist and a registered yoga teacher with over 500 hours of specialized training (RYT 500), I am able to combine elements of cognitive-based therapy with body-based interventions to help my clients feel “connected and at ease” in their bodies during our sessions together.
My approach
I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy coupled with mindfulness approaches found in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. My goal is to help clients accept the present moment as we work together in addressing life's challenges.
My focus
I typically work with adults who desire support in dealing with anxiety, depression, life transition issues and grief and loss. I also have experience in palliative care and have helped clients who have been diagnosed with a chronic health condition and are in need of emotional support in dealing with daily life.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, intuitive and always engaging my clients to share their thoughts and experiences. I goal during sessions is for my clients to feel safe and connected so that real progress can be made during our sessions and beyond.
My journey to mental healthcare
My therapist career began in health care provision, working with critically ill patients. One commonality that I saw among the many patients and caregivers I served, was the need for wholistic mental health support that not only addressed the mind, but also the body. I had the opportunity to study for one year under Bessel van der Kolk at the Trauma Center in Boston. This training changed my life both personally and professionally. I want to share what I have learned with others, to provide support that values our true selves, both in body and in mind.
My goals for you
I truly believe clients know what is best for them, they are the experts in their own lives. My role as a therapist is to help them along, by offering support and encouragement as they choose what issues to address first. I can provide suggestions along the way in how to meet their goals, offer advice and options as needed.
My first session with you
Our first session together will include learning more about you! What is important to you, what would you like to work on during our sessions. I will also share with you more about my approach and provide you with some coping skills that you can use right away. Our sessions will always end with a short meditative practice to help send you off with confidence in your ability to make your life truly worth living!
