My name is Susie Wilhelm and I am an LCSW located in Illinois. My approach to therapy is warm, empathetic, non-judgmental, and client-centered.
My approach
I believe in the process of building rapport and trust during the beginning phases of therapy so that my clients feel comfortable before sharing their concerns or struggles. I let my clients take the lead during our sessions, and I take an empathetic and non-judgmental stance while I listen and support. I commonly use therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).
My focus
I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and grief.
My communication style
I want my clients to feel like they are talking to someone who understands them and supports them. I am a very calm and laid-back person so this allows my clients to feel welcomed and relaxed during their sessions. There is no pressure to speak on something my clients are not ready to discuss. I am here when they are ready.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been that person that friends and family have turned to in times of heartache, struggle, and very low points of their life, and I have enjoyed being this person for them. I am a very caring person and am always putting others before myself. I am very passionate about my job and am always striving to be better for my clients.
My goals for you
My client and I will team up and start discussing what areas the client feels they need to improve on, and then I will prioritize these goals based on current needs and assessment.
My first session with you
Our first session will be very laid back and easy-going. I will not force you to talk about anything you don't want to talk about. I will meet you where you are at and we will spend this time getting to know one another. I look forward to joining you on your journey of healing, learning, and growing into the healthiest version of yourself.
