My name is Sarah Leight, and I am an LCSW. I am honored to be a part of the therapeutic community at this time when so many people are taking brave steps to engage in therapeutic relationships. I believe that as we recover, grow, and educate ourselves as individuals, we are better equipped to rehabilitate broken systems and envision our collective future.
My approach
I utilize a psychodynamic approach to care, which encourages talk therapy to process thoughts and feelings, and which may explore childhood experiences, and relationships with family of origin. In collaboration with clients, we may also explore CBT work, grounding techniques, and mindfulness practice.
My focus
I have an extensive background working with vulnerable populations with severe mental illness, chronic health conditions, and substance use disorders. I feel comfortable providing care and support to clients struggling with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, substance use, and chronic health conditions. I have worked closely with outpatient medical care for many years, and am familiar with psychiatric medication management.
My communication style
I believe in creating a warm, compassionate, and kind therapy space, providing positive feedback, and focusing on strengths. I want patients to feel safe, to feel that they can laugh and use humor, experience tearfulness or silence, and that their existence is meaningful and valuable.
