Hi there, I'm Dr. Kwame! My name is Dr. Kwame Frimpong, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Atlanta, Georgia, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with couples and those who are dating and specialize in porn addiction, infidelity, building trust, intimacy, communication, and conflict resolution, using Prepare-Enrich, Gottman method and symbols for relationship enrichment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.
My approach
My approach to therapy is always a person-centered approach. I help clients to discover within themselves their hidden strengths to overcome their obstacles. I use Solution Focused therapy, the Bible if clients are open to it, CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy) to help clients heal and assess their strengths to empower them to solve their problems.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for couples and those who are preparing to get married, and couples who may be dealing with infidelity and porn addiction. I work to help my clients navigate these transition periods and to build skills to allow them to feel better about themselves to build trust while restoring their relationships, so they can build deeper connections with their partners.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been doing the work of God for over 30 years, and I realize that one big issue that humanity faces is relationships. However, I was not adequately equipped to provide help. So I went to school to study counseling so I would be equipped to help people who were hurting.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is all about working together to define what you want to accomplish in our time together. This often starts by building trust between us and getting comfortable with what it means to be in therapy. Over time, we'll work together to set goals and track your progress.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session together is for us to spend the majority of our time talking about how you've been feeling recently and for me to ask questions to better understand some of why you may be feeling that way. The first session is about us building an initial connection and helping me get a sense of where we should go from there. Each individual is different, and I like to listen first before assuming I know what will work best for you moving forward.
