Ted Buckenham, Licensed Professional Counselor; I am empowerment focused and believe you have the strength within to overcome whatever obstacles you are facing. I will help you find that inner strength, and combine that with new skills that we develop together during therapy, to help you reach your goals.
My approach
I am eclectic with a focus on cognitive-behavioral and family-system strategies in my approach.
My focus
My specialty is working with adolescents and adults recovering from trauma, dealing with anxiety, and also navigating major life transitions.
My communication style
I am casual in the conversation (for example: do you want to meet on your lunch break? Sure we can chat while you eat!). I allow you to process your reasons for seeking therapy at your own pace.
My journey to mental healthcare
In college, I had an opportunity to work with children and adolescents (along with their non-offending caregivers) where it was discovered that a child/teen in the home had been sexually abused. It was an honor to be a part of their healing journey and help the families go from such a low-point/crisis situation back to a normal and happy life. Watching that transformation is what led me to become a therapist.
My goals for you
We will work together to create your goals by combining your thoughts, feelings, and situations with my knowledge of what has helped others in similar situations.
My first session with you
I will tell you more about my background, my hobbies, interests, and what to expect in therapy. I would also like to get to know you as a person (what are your hobbies, interests, etc.).
