Hi I'm, Sandra Rico, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Certified Sex Therapist. I utilize a Client-Centered approach to therapy where I assist the client in self-discovery, teach psycho-education, and encourage clients to develop coping skills to improve their lives.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is eclectic as I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused, Client-Centered therapy, and more. I help clients discover why they are acting a certain way and how that relates to past unresolved issues or trauma.
My focus
I work with a wide variety of clients including minorities. For telehealth sessions, I prefer seeing clients aged 18 and over. Nevertheless, some teens are interested in telehealth and as long as interest is shown, then of course, I will work with them. I have experience working with the LGBT+ and I encourage emotional expression in a safe environment. I have over 15 years of experience treating clients for the following concerns: Anxiety, Behavioral Issues, Depression, Family Conflict, Infidelity, LGBTQ+ Issues, Marital and Premarital, Parenting, Relationship Issues, Self Esteem, Sexual Abuse, Sleep or Insomnia, Trauma, and Women's Issues.
My communication style
I encourage emotional expression and assist Clients in self-discovery, as we as teach psycho-educational material as needed.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always loved to help people and I am curious about people in general. My curiosity helps my clients figure out why they are the way they are, and identify what they want to change. My greatest satisfaction is when my clients are able to feel some sort of relief, overcome difficult situations or trauma, and notice an improvement in their lives.
My goals for you
I assist the clients in identifying current concerns and developing their goals.
My first session with you
During the first session, I will gather information for intake and assist the client in developing a treatment plan. I often assign homework to be completed in between sessions. The following week we discuss any progress made or obstacles.
