Hi there, my name is Dr. Barbara Palomino de Velasco, or if you wish, you may call me "Dr. P." I am very open to your views and believe that you are the expert on you and what you need! I am here to help you make the changes necessary to get your needs met, and I will be here to help you navigate the changes you wish to make in your life.
My approach
My therapeutic approach to providing therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational, Solution Focused, and if you would like Faith-Based Approaches.
My focus
I have been working with adults for over 22 years and have had the privilege of assisting them in areas of communication, problem-solving, depression management, anxiety reduction, and the development of adaptive coping skills. Additionally, I train nationwide on law enforcement suicide prevention, critical incidents, and building more resilient first responder families.
My communication style
I am very open to your views and believe that you are the expert on you and what you need! I am here to help you make the changes necessary to get your needs met, and I will be here to help you navigate the changes you wish to make in your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
My background was in forensics, working mostly with offenders and substance abuse patients. I shifted to first responders, which include (law enforcement, fire, paramedics, EMS, corrections, communications, and emergency room nurses). I still work with first responders, and many of them are also active or retired military. I am also a professor and love teaching students in the field of psychology, as we have a great need to help our communities. Since the pandemic, I have focused on a clinical population addressing anxiety, depression, and trauma. Helping my patients be able to help themselves is the reason I do this work.
My first session with you
During our first session, we will discuss your goals for treatment. We can start to get to know one another and create a place where you feel safe coming to the session.
