Hi, I'm Davia Knight, and I am a licensed mental health counselor who is also of Jamaican descent. I provide compassion and evidenced-based techniques to individuals to help in their healing journey. My focus areas are ADHD (adult and child), PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, spiritual abuse, and work-related stressors.
My approach
I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to assist clients with assessing their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors by empowering them to evaluate the purpose of processing each area. With narrative therapy, clients gain the freedom to express in detail their lives, especially if it includes past or current traumas. Mindfulness can help build awareness and self-regulation of emotions that feel pressured or cause negative impacts on one's life and mental health.
My focus
I typically work with clients who struggle to set healthy boundaries with themselves and others, have experienced or are currently experiencing trauma or spiritual abuse, and are experiencing an inability to sustain attention or are experiencing inattention. The conditions I'm most comfortable treating are ADHD (adult and child), PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship concerns, spiritual abuse, and work-related stressors.
My communication style
We will work together to identify areas that are out of alignment. In our sessions together, I will utilize evidence-based techniques along with grace and compassion so you can increase your awareness and confidence.
My journey to mental healthcare
Helping people get unstuck and heal is something I enjoy. What attracted me to my career as a therapist was being able to assist clients with setting healthy boundaries, goals, and expectations for their lives by evaluating current stressors, or past or current traumas. What drives me is the ability to view the world as a place where people who need help can receive it free of shame or embarrassment while working toward increasing their awareness and autonomy.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting by allowing the client to express what they would like to work on, and their expectations, and remain flexible if their goals change. Goal setting with clients is a collaborative effort.
My first session with you
The client can expect a compassionate environment in which their needs, expectations, and goals will be evaluated to set a foundation to build upon.
