Hi, my name is Erika Rucker and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Registered Nurse. I have been a clinical therapist for over 10 years and use a holistic approach that heals the mind, body, and spirit. I focus on anxiety, depression, trauma, couples counseling, life transitions, women's health, adolescent and young adults who are struggling with the stresses of school and coming into their own uniqueness.
My approach
I utilize an eclectic style of techniques as I believe that each person needs something special and unique in their healing process. I use a variety of technique that include cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal family systems, mindfulness, somatic movement, breathwork, nutrition assistance for mental health disorders, and yoga.
My focus
I enjoy working with those who need assistance in healing from depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, insomnia, women's health, and those in life transitions. I work with adults, adolescence, young adults, and couples. I specialize in working with and treating adolescence and young adults who are struggling with school, career, and changes in life.
My communication style
When working with clients I work to provide a calm environment that is supportive and positive. I create a safe place for my clients to be able to be seen, heard, and heal.
My journey to mental healthcare
Becoming a therapist was an easy decision and was something that I knew I wanted to do as a teenager. I struggled with my own depression and anxiety and began seeing a therapist who helped me significantly. Because of this I wanted to help others overcome issues within their lives. I continue to be drive to do work in mental health because I love seeing people get better and live lives that they have always wanted. I enjoy helping people and engaging them in a safe place that allows them to find peace and healing.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with patients in the first sessions to help establish where we are going in our sessions and time together. I have clients start with small achievable goals to help build confidence and self-esteem. We continue to create and grow goals to meet their ultimate goal to feel their best and healthiest.
My first session with you
During the first session I want to build rapport and safety with the client and begin to get to know them through assessment and fact finding. We will establish our expectations of each other and begin to create goals for future sessions.
