My name is Laura Mengar. I have over 10 years of experience working with clients who deal with various mental health disorders including substance abuse disorders. My goal is to support those that I work with to be able to gain skills and confidence in being able to develop ways to engage in living a life that brings them a sense of hope and connection with one's self.
My approach
I believe it is important for therapy to be individualized for the needs of each individual and can vary depending on needs from session to session. I utilize various treatment modalities including CBT, DBT, mindfulness, Family Systems, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as well as others. I have specialized training and experience in working with trauma, adoption, suicidality, self-harm, as well as autism through the Autism Society of Greater Wisconsin.
My focus
I have experience working with a variety of individuals. I have worked with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, PTSD, self-esteem/image, boundaries, and working towards improving relationships. I work with individuals over the age of 6 years old.
My communication style
My goal is to create an environment that is welcoming and offers a sense of safety for individuals to heal in. I focus on helping individuals to be able to recognize barriers in their journey and build skills to work through those barriers towards progress in their identified goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
I truly enjoy helping other. I originally had looked into going into medicine and/or nursing though recognized therapy being the place that is where I can support people the best I can. I have personal experiences in recognizing the need for support in varies ways throughout life and for many different reasons. I strongly support the need to be there to heal in and through healthy relationships and environments.

I work with clients in supporting them in their identified goals as well as help them to explore goals that would be beneficial for changes each individual is working towards.

During the first session, I work towards getting to know more about you and what you are hoping to achieve during participation in therapy. I also want you to get to know me as well.
