Hello! My name is Monique Woods, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) as well as a Clinical Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC), who is dedicated to providing compassionate and effective therapy to individuals seeking support and guidance. I have specialized in helping clients navigate through life’s challenges, develop coping strategies, and cultivate resilience for over 10 years. My areas of expertise are anxiety disorder, PTSD, and addictions.
My approach
My approach is tailored to each client's specific situation, and I strive to create a supportive and collaborative environment that includes many therapy models including Brief Solution Focused Therapy (BSFT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).
My focus
In my practice, I work with a diverse range of clients, each with unique backgrounds and needs. Typically, I see clients ranging from older adolescents (16/17) to adults, who are dealing with a variety of challenges. I often work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, and stress management.
My communication style
In my sessions, I prioritize creating a warm, welcoming, and safe environment where clients feel genuinely heard and supported. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is a cornerstone of effective therapy, so I strive to foster a tone of openness, empathy, and trust from the very first session. Clients have expressed the ease they feel sharing their thoughts and emotions even when difficult as they know they will be supported.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist has been driven by a passion for helping others navigate life’s challenges. I began my helping journey in the finance industry utilizing an undergraduate degree in business administration with an emphasis in finance. After an increasing interest in psychology, I return to university to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology. I went on to obtain a graduate degree in Social Work. I have worked in several mental health settings including mental health drop-in centers, community-based residential facilities, VA residential PTSD program, VA hospital medical, inpatient psychiatric care, and outpatient counseling.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative and client-centered. I believe that success begins with clear, realistic, and measurable goals that reflect what the client truly wants to achieve.
My first session with you
We'll start by discussing what brings you to therapy and any specific concerns or challenges you’re facing. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background, current situation, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. This might include exploring your personal history, relationships, and any previous experiences with counseling.
