I am Jessica Key, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Wisconsin. My approach to therapy is client-centered and compassionate, with a focus on creating a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I believe in tailoring my therapeutic methods to meet your unique needs, using a range of evidence-based practices to help you on your journey toward healing and personal growth. I specialize in working with individuals who are dealing with trauma, anxiety, and depression, but I also provide support for a variety of other mental health concerns. My goal is to help you build resilience, achieve your personal goals, and enhance your overall well-being.
My approach
I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet each client's unique needs, ensuring that the care you receive is truly individualized. The most common therapeutic techniques I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These methods allow me to provide effective, personalized support that helps you navigate your challenges and work towards your goals.
My focus
My client focus includes working with individuals experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and a variety of other mental health concerns. I work with culturally diverse populations, including individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and transgender. My practice is inclusive and sensitive to the unique experiences and challenges faced by these communities, ensuring that everyone feels respected and supported in their therapeutic journey.
My communication style
I create a warm, non-judgmental, and supportive environment in my sessions, where clients feel safe to express themselves openly. My goal is to build a trusting therapeutic relationship, where you can explore your thoughts and emotions without fear of criticism or rejection. Working with me feels collaborative and empowering, as I strive to understand your unique experiences and help you navigate challenges with compassion and respect. I encourage active participation and work alongside you to develop strategies that foster growth, resilience, and overall well-being.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to a career as a therapist because of my deep interest in understanding human behavior and my desire to help others navigate the challenges of life. From an early age, I was fascinated by the resilience people can show in the face of adversity and wanted to be a part of that journey for others. The idea that I could provide support and guidance during someone's most difficult moments felt incredibly meaningful to me. What drives me to do this work is the profound impact therapy can have on a person’s life. Seeing clients gain insight, develop coping strategies, and make positive changes motivates me every day. I’m passionate about creating a safe space where people feel heard, valued, and empowered to overcome their struggles. The opportunity to witness and support personal growth and transformation is deeply rewarding and continues to fuel my commitment to this work.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients as a collaborative and dynamic process. We begin by discussing your hopes and aspirations, as well as any challenges or obstacles you may be facing. I encourage you to actively participate in identifying what you want to achieve in therapy, whether those goals are short-term or long-term. Throughout the process, I provide support and guidance, helping you stay motivated and adaptable as we work towards your objectives. I also regularly check in with you to assess progress and make any necessary adjustments, ensuring that the goals remain aligned with your evolving needs and priorities.
My first session with you
During a first session with me, you can expect a welcoming and open conversation where the focus is on getting to know you and understanding your reasons for seeking therapy. I’ll ask about your background, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve through our work together. This is also an opportunity for you to share any specific goals, preferences, or expectations you have for therapy. We’ll discuss your history, including any previous experiences with therapy, significant life events, and any symptoms or challenges you’re currently facing. I’ll also explain my therapeutic approach, the techniques I commonly use, and how I tailor these to meet individual needs. The first session is very much about building rapport and establishing a foundation of trust. You’ll have the space to ask questions, express any concerns, and start to feel comfortable in the therapeutic environment. By the end of the session, we’ll have begun to outline a plan for moving forward, focusing on how we can work together to address your needs and achieve your goals.
