Hello, my name is Kirsten Taylor; I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and I take a client-centered approach to counseling. I work with a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, grief, relationships, trauma/abuse, and others.
My approach
Cognitive behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy among others.
My focus
I have experience working with many types of clients. In terms of ages, I work with 18 to 99. In terms of conditions, I have experience working with depression, anxiety & panic, PTSD, adjustment issues, and others.
My communication style
I first seek to help the client feel heard and understood. And gather a complete picture of their history with the issue and in general during the intake process so I understand them better. I want the client to be at ease and as comfortable as possible with the process. And I invite them to ask any questions they have.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist in mid-life, after a career in business. I had always wanted to work in a helping field and when I worked in a managed mental health care firm as an intake worker, I went to grad school, got licensed as an LPC, and spent about 8 years in a community clinic and 8 years in my own practice.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting in a client-centered, joint way to develop goals that are meaningful to the client in terms of where they want to see progress.
My first session with you
I try to be welcoming and most clients are able to tell me about their life and challenges as well as where they want to head in therapy.
