My name is Anderson Boatman and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have been practicing as a therapist for the past 5 years. I firmly believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for change to occur in therapy. Thus, I stress forming strong relationships with the clients I work with. I specialize in working with athletes, but also young adults, men, and individuals who enjoy being reflective.
My approach
I predominately utilize an interpersonal process approach which encourages the communication of the here-and-now relationship between client and therapist. However, I integrate that approach with and am comfortable with, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral, and existential approaches.
My focus
Historically, I have worked with clients of all ages and backgrounds. More recently, I have predominately worked with young adults. I am comfortable working with individuals who are dealing with depression, anxiety, personality disorders, athletic performance issues, eating concerns, and phase-of-life issues.
My communication style
I embrace interpersonal communication. I welcome and encourage the here-and-now in the therapy relationship and bring in communication about the relationship between the client and myself. I believe that if clients feel uncomfortable or unable to share aspects of their lives with me, it would make it difficult if not impossible to achieve their personal goals. Thus, I welcome conversations about the therapeutic relationship between the client and myself.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always enjoyed working with people. It started off with a fascination with psychology that transformed into a love for helping people. As I continued my work as a therapist, I began to see the impact a strong therapeutic relationship could have on someone. This has been paramount to continuing to inspire me to continue the work I do.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients from a collaboratively perspective. I believe that goals should be client-driven, and with a collaborative approach, we can work toward identifying achievable goals.
My first session with you
Clients could expect a session filled with efforts to get to know each other, my approach to therapy, and understanding their unique concerns. Much of the first session is spent attempting to better understand what the client's unique concerns are to help set the groundwork for a great therapeutic relationship.
