Hi there, I'm Keenya!

My name is Keenya Horton, and I am a licensed mental health therapist with over 7 years of international experience. My approach to therapy focuses on empowering individuals to overcome negative self-talk and limiting beliefs, fostering self-awareness, and cultivating deeper self-compassion. I specialize in holistic support and mindfulness practices, helping clients unlock their full potential and create meaningful, fulfilling lives.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing on a range of evidence-based modalities to best support each client's unique needs. I utilize trauma-focused therapy to address and heal past wounds, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to challenge and change unhelpful thought patterns, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients embrace their thoughts and feelings without judgment. Additionally, I incorporate Motivational Interviewing to enhance motivation and commitment to change, and I maintain a client-centered focus, ensuring that therapy is tailored to each individual's goals and strengths. My aim is to empower clients to achieve personal growth and mental well-being.

My focus

I work with teens, adults, and couples. My client focus is primarily on individuals who are seeking to overcome challenges related to negative self-talk, limiting beliefs, and past traumas. I typically work with individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, and life transitions. I am most comfortable treating conditions related to trauma, emotional distress, and self-esteem issues. My goal is to provide a supportive and nurturing environment where clients can explore their inner worlds, cultivate self-awareness and self-compassion, and ultimately unlock their full potential for a fulfilling and meaningful life.

My communication style

My communication style is warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I strive to create a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment in my sessions, where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. Working with me feels collaborative and empowering, as I aim to foster a sense of trust and openness. My goal is to ensure that clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions, knowing they are in a space that promotes healing, self-discovery, and personal growth.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a therapist began with a deep-seated passion for helping others and a fascination with the human mind. Growing up in the Bahamas, I witnessed the impact of mental health challenges within my community and felt a strong calling to make a difference. My academic and professional journey took me across the globe, allowing me to gain over 10 years of international experience as a therapist, school counselor, and consultant. I’ve been where you are right now—in a place where you’re grappling with decisions, overwhelmed, feeling like you’re drowning, screaming without a sound. I want to help you find your voice, your joy, and your peace, and discover the reason you exist on this planet. What attracted me to a career as a therapist was the profound potential for transformation and healing that therapy offers. I have always been driven by the desire to empower individuals, to overcome their struggles and realize their full potential. The ability to provide a safe space for clients to explore their inner worlds, heal from past traumas, and cultivate self-awareness and self-compassion is incredibly fulfilling. What drives me to do this work is witnessing the resilience and growth of my clients. Seeing individuals break free from negative self-talk, limiting beliefs and emotional pain to lead more authentic and fulfilling lives is my greatest motivation. It is an honor to support and guide my clients on their journeys toward healing and empowerment, and I am committed to fostering positive change, one soul at a time. I’m here to help you uncover your true self and make the dreams you’ve envisioned a reality.

My goals for you

I approach goal setting with clients as a collaborative process. Together, we identify their unique aspirations and challenges, ensuring that the goals are both meaningful and attainable. I provide the necessary support and encouragement while also gently challenging clients to push beyond their comfort zones when appropriate. This balanced approach fosters growth and empowers clients to take ownership of their therapeutic journey, ultimately leading to lasting and impactful change.

My first session with you

During a first session with me, clients can expect a welcoming and comfortable environment where they can begin to share their stories. We will discuss their reasons for seeking therapy and explore their current challenges and goals. I will ask about their personal and medical history to gain a comprehensive understanding of their background. This session is also an opportunity for clients to ask questions about the therapeutic process and to begin building a trusting, collaborative relationship. My aim is to make clients feel heard, understood, and supported from the very first meeting.
