Hi, I'm Malinda Thomas and I am a dually licensed master's clinical mental health and substance abuse therapist. My counseling style interweaves solution-focused, acceptance and commitment, relapse prevention, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I’ve worked with individuals and groups through various levels of mental health illness and substance abuse.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is providing an acceptance commitment and cognitive behavioral-based psychotherapy to assist clients in the discovery of their strengths, values, and support systems. Through this process, I want to help clients enhance a healthy lifestyle while supporting their mental health and well-being.
My focus
I am dedicated to helping adults 18-65 plus with mood disorders, self-destructive behaviors, anxiety, stress, self-confidence, boundary-setting, spirituality, and substance abuse.
My communication style
I want to provide my clients with a genuine, warm safe place to process their success and challenges by building rapport and trust.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist started 18 years ago when working at a private residential facility for youth and adults with mental health and substance abuse disorders. There I found my passion in helping others, learning how mental health and substance abuse can impact their lives and the lives of their families. I became passionate in this endeavor about wanting to help others share in their successes and overcome their challenges. This showed me treatment is possible. I accomplished my goals by becoming dually licensed for both mental health and substance abuse as I am passionate about both and continue to strive to help make a difference in people's lives.
My goals for you
I like to use an open-ended communication style to support clients in making their own decisions and learning to find solutions that support them.
My first session with you
During the first session, I like to ask clients what brings them to treatment, so they have time to process any current struggles or challenges they are facing. I provide a non-judgmental space for them to talk about what brings them to treatment so I can help them begin working toward their goals.
