My approach
It is important to tailor session therapeutic approaches to the needs and goals of each client. To accomplish this, I take a multi-faceted therapeutic approach session approach. This includes such therapies as CBT, DBT, Seeking Safety, Rogerian, and motivational interviewing.
My focus
I have a special fondness for working with individuals who have one or more issues with traumatic backgrounds, relationship problems, anxiety, depression, and lack of self-confidence. I believe that teaching positive coping skills in combination with focusing on a person's strengths and abilities will help them lead more productive lives.
My communication style
I attempt to create a comfortable environment for people. The focus is on helping clients develop trust in me. I do this by accepting the person without judgment and being myself.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have over 20 years of experience in individual and group counseling. I got interested in counseling because my own family has a background in mental health and addiction issues. Initially, I worked with teens who came from troubled families which further fostered by the belief that counseling could be a means to help others improve their lives.
My goals for you
Setting goals with clients is done through the first two or three sessions in conjunction with them. It is done by creating treatment plans that are road maps for sessions. The plans are created and then given to the clients for final approval.
My first session with you
The first session is one in which clients and I get acquainted with each other. I ask questions about the client's background, current lifestyle, and what brings them to seek therapy. I share my background and am open to answering any questions about me that the clients ask.
