My name is Shawna Sunday and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) physically based in Renton, Washington, and working with clients in-person locally and statewide via telehealth. I work with adolescents, couples, individuals and specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, grief or loss, and life transitions, using a basis of Humanistic Psychotherapy with an integrative framework to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.
My approach
My clinical approach is based primarily on humanistic psychotherapy in an integrative framework. The therapeutic relationship serves as a vehicle or context in which the process of psychological growth is fostered.
My focus
My areas of proficiency and comfort treating include issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias, grief or loss, and life transitions.
My communication style
My style is to initiate openness, empathy, honesty, and reflective listening in an authentic manner via acceptance, genuineness, and a deep understanding of the issues from the client’s point of view.
My journey to mental healthcare
My past 13 years of work experience have been in community mental health organizations, work releases, homeless shelters, and the state mental health inpatient facility, Western State Hospital. It was in these environments that I realized the need for greater assistance in the community to help those who are in need and want to better their lives with the assistance of a guide, which led me to this calling and career field. It was an aha moment for me.
My goals for you
I will work by systematically considering the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. The central idea of my work is to help you access your inner resources to resolve the issues that originally brought you to therapy. The goals of treatment are to help my clients unfreeze frozen harmful patterns and move toward more freedom, more choice, and more joy in their lives.
My first session with you
Each client's experience is different, but one thing that most clients have reported at the end of their session has been one of respect, a deeper understanding of what being heard is like, and emotional relief.
