Hi! My name is Annette Fricke, and my license number is LH00003873. Focus areas of practice include depression, anxiety, substance use, relationships, low self-esteem, and transitioning to adulthood.
My approach
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but am flexible to use other approaches. I have also been trained in Gestalt, Rogerian, and Client-centered therapies. Practical things to do to increase your chances of getting and feeling better.
My focus
I am most comfortable treating anxiety and depression issues alongside self-esteem, and relationship issues with others. I also ask the client to set goals and intermediate steps to get there.
My communication style
Talking about myself is not helpful for you. I'm here to help you with your situation. You are here to work on yourself. I can give you hints or be quite blunt. Mostly I am here to listen and come up with practical steps for you.
My journey to mental healthcare
My supervisor asked me to counsel a woman who had a double mastectomy. I had no tools and only a bachelor's degree in Psychology and no counseling courses. I was only 24 years old with no experience. I was angry that this was his view of what I should be doing. As time went on, I went back to school and became a therapist
My goals for you
Acknowledge the causes of symptoms. Pick a goal, then break it down into smaller goals. Focus on the smaller goals and follow through. Really stick to the smaller goals and give it an honest try. This is how to reach larger goals.
My first session with you
The first few sessions are building rapport and listening to your story. I can help you best by getting to know what has and has not worked in the past. Sometimes what worked in the past will work again or not. Sometimes it's time to approach the situation differently.
