Hi there, I'm Allison!

Hello! My name is Allison Sande, I am a licensed mental health counselor. I am deeply committed to guiding individuals in uncovering their authentic selves and building lasting self-esteem. By integrating mindfulness, emotional regulation, and compassionate support, I help my clients navigate life’s challenges while empowering them to embrace their truth and live with greater confidence and fulfillment.

My approach

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a type of cognitive-behavioral therapy designed to help individuals manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and build a life worth living. Originally developed for treating borderline personality disorder, it is now widely used for various mental health issues. DBT combines mindfulness practices with skills in distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness, offering practical tools to navigate challenges and promote both acceptance and change in one’s life.

My focus

As a DBT-informed therapist, I work with adolescents, teens, and emerging adults, helping them navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. Through a DBT lens, I provide a supportive and structured environment where they can develop effective coping strategies, regulate emotions, and build stronger, healthier relationships. My goal is to empower young people to gain the skills and self-awareness they need to manage life’s stressors and cultivate resilience.

My communication style

In our sessions together, I aim to create a warm, compassionate space where you feel truly seen and heard. My approach is rooted in empathy and non-judgment, where you can safely explore your emotions, challenges, and strengths. Working with me feels like a partnership; I’m here to listen deeply, validate your experiences, and gently guide you toward growth and self-understanding. Together, we’ll work at a pace that feels comfortable for you, always prioritizing your well-being as we navigate the path toward healing and positive change.

My journey to mental healthcare

What drew me to this career as a therapist was my deep desire to help others find their inner strength and navigate life’s challenges with more resilience and self-compassion. I’ve always been fascinated by the human mind and the ways we cope with adversity, but it was witnessing the transformative power of therapy—how it can unlock healing and growth—that truly inspired me. I wanted to be a part of that process, offering support and guidance to those seeking clarity, connection, and self-acceptance. Helping people realize they have the tools within themselves to create meaningful change is what motivates me every day.

My goals for you

When it comes to goal setting in our sessions, I believe in a collaborative approach that aligns with your values and where you are in your journey. We start by exploring what matters most to you, identifying both immediate needs and long-term aspirations. From there, we break down larger goals into manageable, achievable steps that are realistic and tailored to your unique strengths and challenges. Throughout the process, I provide support and encouragement, while also fostering accountability and helping you track progress. The focus is always on creating goals that are meaningful and empowering, allowing you to build confidence as you move forward.

My first session with you

In our first session together, you can expect a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere where the focus is on getting to know you. We’ll explore what brings you in, discuss any concerns, and talk about your hopes and goals for therapy. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background and what’s currently challenging for you, but there’s no pressure to share more than you’re comfortable with. We’ll also discuss how DBT works and how it can support you specifically. Most importantly, this session is about building trust and ensuring you feel safe and heard as we begin our work together.
