My name is Lily Drofyak. I hold an LMHC in Washington state, since 2014. My approach to therapy is holistic, person-centered, experiential, and existential.
My approach
My therapeutic approach to therapy is client-centered, based on the belief that every person brings a unique and formative personal, family, and cultural experience. I have been influenced by Adlerian psychology, with emphasis on the healing power of a therapist-client relationship. I focus on who you are and how you experience yourself, strengths and “growth edges”, past and current relationship experience, and your style of relating, in addition to biological experiences on behavior and the influence of culture/society on you and your concerns. Many of the challenges in clients' lives stem from trouble within the various relationships that they are involved in. Utilizing this strength-based approach helps clients discover and utilize their own individual strengths to overcome their current challenges. I also utilize CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused therapy modalities.
My focus
Relationship issues such as parenting, codependency, and interpersonal challenges. Life transition issues. Loss and grief. Addiction-related issues. Various traumas including childhood neglect, abuse, abandonment, narcissistic abuse, rape, domestic violence, religious trauma, poverty trauma, developmental traumas, primal wound, and personality disorders.
My communication style
I believe that a therapeutic relationship is the most important component for the therapy process to be effective and worthwhile. Change happens when people feel heard and understood. I strive to create a collaborative, safe, and accepting environment for clients to be able to explore their emotional needs and work toward change.
My journey to mental healthcare
I came to the US as a teenager and experienced a lot of cultural difficulties as an immigrant. My experiences with school bullying, academic issues, feeling out of place as a young woman led me to study human behavior, especially various cultural aspects, and how one's environment shapes their personality and mindset.
My goals for you
Goals are like destinations that are set by the clients, depending on their readiness to change, among other many factors. My role is to guide them through this journey and find the best ways to get to the desired destination. I believe that we all have different ways of viewing life and defining what our goals are based on our needs.
My first session with you
Usually, I spend the first session getting to know my client, focusing on building rapport. I try to get a thorough history by gathering information, asking open-ended questions, and trying to truly understand the issue and how I can be of assistance.
