My name is Jodyan Gaynor, I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Clinician in the state of Vermont. I work with adults and couples experiencing a range of issues including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, workplace difficulties and major life transitions. Even positive events can create stressful experiences. I believe our history and cultures is a significant part of who we are and am careful to include this in the experiences of how we approach healing and emotinal wellbeing.
My approach
As a clinician, I believe that although we have similar experiences, we are all unique. With that in mind, my approach to therapy involves customizing my knowledge and skillset as I learn more about you and your needs to give you the best chance at achieving your best self no matter the issue you face. I most often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Approaches and Acceptance and Commitment Techniques. These combined approaches allow you to authentically express emotions, provide opportunities to create change and experience a degree of control over your response to the wrld around you.
My focus
In my practice, I find that my approach is best suited to young adults into adulthood. I also do a significant amount of work with couples. My areas of expertise include working with mood disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety, stress management, workplace difficulties, relationship issues, marriage counseling, faith-based counseling and anxieties and difficulties related to life transitions.
My communication style
In my sessions I like to create an open relaxed environment to foster honesty and safety for authentic expression. I value a collaborative therapeutic relationship where feedback goes both ways. Since you are the expert on you, I encourage my clients to share techniques that have not worked or when they believe an approach does not suit them. I also actively engage with my clients by providing insights and suggestions while still allowing you the space for sharing and self expression.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a collaborative process. While as the "known expert" I may be able to identify things that you may need to work on. It is likely that there are areas that you specifically identify as being more important to you or that you will more readily see as indicators of improvement and change in your circumstances or experiences. We work together on creating goals that will indicate change from both perspectives.
My first session with you
During a first session, the goal will be to get to know more about you through identifying gathering of history including your family, medical and social history. We will also identify the difficulties you are experiencing now as well as other information about yourself including your strengths, background and any unique circumstances. This information helps to provide a framework to fostering a relationship and building an approach appropriate to your needs.
