My name is Donna "Kim" Naffah and I am an LPC and registered therapist in Virginia. Therapy is all about working with individuals to improve their mental well-being by helping them identify and change troubling emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. I have over 15 years of experience providing such therapy. When I’m not providing services, you can usually find me riding my Harley Davidson Softtail Deluxe, walking with my German Shepherds in the Great Smokey Mountains, attending concerts and bike rallies, or just hanging out enjoying nature.
My approach
I approach therapy with an eclectic assortment of approaches and tools to individualize our work together to meet your needs best. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), as well as a variety of other therapeutic approaches such as Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Client-Centered Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Mindfulness-based therapy, and Exposure Therapy.
My focus
My focus was psychology where I received my undergraduate from UVA Wise and my Masters Degree from Radford University. I have been a private practice therapist since 2011. I’m open to working with anyone who is looking to better understand themselves and unlock their potential. My clinical experience spans clients of all ages and from all walks of life.
My communication style
I listen to my clients, observe visual clues, and engage honestly. I also assign homework to ensure we’re not just talking; we’re actually getting better.
My journey to mental healthcare
Several decades ago I had my first encounter with psychotherapy as a patient. I was quite surprised to see just how valuable genuine therapy could be. I was hooked! I love being a therapist because not only do I learn new things every day, but I help individuals do the same. I get to work with people who are being their most authentic selves in an effort to improve their mental and emotional well-being. I feel privileged to be able to engage with clients on a level that creates a safe environment in which they can express themselves freely.
My goals for you
Working with each individual client, I collaboratively set clear goals for myself and my clients, and treat every session as an opportunity to make progress.
My first session with you
The first session generally includes introductions, establishing rapport, listening to your “story” and setting the tone and pace for future sessions.
