Hi there, I'm Rachel!

Hello! I’m so glad you’re here! My name is Rachel Alvarez. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. I have a strong background in mental health and substance abuse treatment and I am dedicated to providing compassionate and effective support to individuals and families navigating challenges. My goal is to help clients achieve lasting positive change through evidence-based practices and personalized care.

My approach

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my primary approach to providing therapy. CBT is an evidence-based treatment that focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors. By helping clients develop healthier thinking patterns and coping strategies, I aim to empower them to manage their mental health. Through personalized and structured sessions, I work collaboratively with my clients to assist them with achieving their therapeutic goals and foster lasting positive change. An additional approach I utilize is Client-Centered Therapy. This approach is grounded in the belief that clients have the innate capacity for self-understanding and growth. I prioritize the unique needs and experiences of each individual I encounter and create a supportive and non-judgmental environment. I provide active listening, support, and empathy while encouraging my clients to explore their thoughts and feelings openly. I will work closely with those in my care to assist them with identifying their strengths and help them work towards their personal goals.

My focus

My Client focus is typically individual sessions with children, adolescents, and adults who are experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and grief. I tailor sessions to meet the needs of each age group, ensuring that therapy is age-appropriate and effective.

My communication style

Creating a relaxed, safe, and supportive environment is a fundamental aspect of my therapeutic practice. I aim to help clients feel comfortable and secure. By building rapport and providing active listening I strive to ensure that each client feels heard, respected, and valued. This supportive atmosphere is important to assist clients with developing coping strategies, building resilience, and navigating challenges.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a Therapist began with a deep-rooted passion for helping others at a very young age. I pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice, a Master’s Degree in Psychology as well as a Master’s Degree in Social Work which has provided me with a solid foundation in human development and therapeutic techniques. After earning my degree, I became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor. I have worked in the human services field for a significant amount of time in various settings, gaining hands-on experience with diverse populations. My dedication to this field is driven by a commitment to empower others, facilitate healing, and promote lasting positive change in their lives.

My goals for you

As a Therapist, I approach goal setting through a collaborative client-centered process. I will first focus on building rapport and open communication so that I can work with the client to identify their strengths, values, and aspirations as it relates to setting attainable goals. Setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound)goals is imperative and throughout this process, I would be sure to provide support, encouragement, and accountability during sessions. I would be sure to review and adjust goals as needed to reflect the client’s progress or any new evolving needs.

My first session with you

During an initial session with me, my clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where they feel safe to share their emotions and concerns. We will start by discussing what brought them to therapy and any specific issues or goals they may currently have. I will ask questions to better understand their background, current situation, and what they are hoping to achieve during our time together. The initial session is also a time for my clients to ask any questions about therapy and discuss confidentiality. My main goal during the first session is to begin building a therapeutic rapport and gain a clear understanding of how together we can begin the journey toward positive change.
