My name is Dr. Nadeem Ahmed, and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP) based in Midlothian Virginia. I am a seasoned psychologist who has been in the field for 15 years. I provide telehealth therapy to clients in Virginia. My approach to therapy focuses on understanding the unique strengths and challenges that have impacted a client’s life. I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing as modalities to help build a shared understanding of your life and goals for therapy.
My approach
I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing as modalities to help build a therapeutic relationship and a treatment plan. I work to help my clients understand the barriers in their life, and then techniques are used to remove dysfunctional thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. As the barriers are removed or reduced, a healthy set of core beliefs and an improved emotional state begin to occur.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of feeling safe, connected, accepted, or having peace in their life. This often takes the form of anxiety, depression, PTSD, or chronic stress. I also have expertise in treating conditions that are impacted by trauma.
My communication style
I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about their struggles. I provide empathy and exploratory questions to develop a shared understanding of their struggles and goals for therapy.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a psychologist because I have always wanted to help people. I was a natural listener and later when I became a trained psychologist I learned to help people with significant challenges in their life. I have a wonderful job that allows me to help people become a better version of themselves.
My goals for you
After the first session, a shared understanding of what has led to their challenges can be developed. The client and I determine a goal and I use evidence-based interventions that have a strong likelihood of alleviating the client's distress. As sessions continue we evaluate the progress and determine if changes to the treatment plan need to be made.
My first session with you
The first session is called an evaluation. We discuss what brought the person to therapy and review the life events that have contributed to their challenges as well as their strengths. As a trauma-informed psychologist, the client will never have to self-disclose distressing moments in their life until they are ready. Safety and the client's anatomy to share are paramount for long-term change to occur.
