Hi there! My name is Amin Faiz, I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I have over 13 years of experience providing mental health and substance abuse counseling to adults and teenagers. My overarching goal in providing therapy is to meet the client wherever he or she is at in their life and to work together as a team to meet their goals.
My approach
I use an eclectic combination of theoretical approaches and interventions, but two that I use pretty frequently are cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused therapies. I want counseling to be a positive and effective experience for my clients.
My focus
I am comfortable working and have experience with clients of any gender, background, condition, and situation. I most frequently work with anxiety and mood disorders.
My communication style
To me, counseling is a partnership between the client and therapist. We are a team trying to put our heads together to solve or at least better cope with issues in the client's life. I like to use humor when appropriate, reflection, empathy..anything to make the sessions more personable and less "robotic" than the stereotypical counseling process can be.
My journey to mental healthcare
Simply put, my passion is helping others. I consider success in this field to be when you as a counselor play a role in the client's improvement he or she wants to make in their life.
My goals for you
The road map for counseling is the treatment plan. It starts with goals, which come from the client. From there, we break those goals down into achievable and measurable objectives. Basically, what all do you need to be improved in your life, how I'm going to help get you there, and how you will know when you're improving!
My first session with you
You aren't going to open up to someone you don't feel comfortable with. So, I spend the first couple of sessions on rapport building and initial connection to give you a chance to figure out if I'm the right professional fit for you. My goal for the first session is for you to leave that session having a good feeling about the counselor and the counseling process, along with a sense of hope that things can get better in your life!
