Hi there, I'm Colin!

Hello, I am Colin McEntee, LCSW. I use a person-centered approach to help people identify who they want to be and help them get there. I often find that our mental health and substance use issues can make it difficult to realize the lives we envision for ourselves. Therapy can help us resolve and move past the things that have held us back.

My approach

I use an eclectic therapeutic approach meaning I draw from several different theoretical models including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Ego State Interventions, and Existential Psychotherapy.

My focus

I work with adults of all ages. I have been most helpful in helping people with difficulties resulting from traumatic experiences, both in childhood and adulthood, substance use, and chronic mental health issues like depression, bipolar disorder, and personality disorders. I have extensive experience in working with people who may be a part of marginalized groups based on race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexual orientation, and/or gender identity. I am also a kink and non-monogamy-friendly therapist.

My communication style

I try to create a comfortable and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore themselves. I let clients know that there is nothing they cannot discuss and explore in our work together. Integral to this idea is the importance of trust, I work to develop a sense of trust and acceptance that serves as a foundation for our communication together.

My journey to mental healthcare

I have always had a desire to be a person that makes the world a better place. My work allows me to help people make their lives better which in turn makes the world around them better. I love being able to see and celebrate the positive and amazing transformations my clients make.

My goals for you

I work with clients to help them develop therapy goals that are unique to them. We will often revise these goals as we work and the client changes.

My first session with you

In our first session, we will discuss confidentiality, its importance, and limitations in a few specific legally mandated situations. I will ask you to tell me about what brings you into therapy and will likely ask you for information about your life history and prior mental health treatment. At the end of the session, I will share with you my impressions about how we might work on your concerns. I will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about our work together, therapy in general, or me as a therapist.
