Joe Wareing is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has been practicing for 10 years and is very grateful to have the opportunity to work in the mental health field.
My approach
I use mindfulness and Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) to slow down and to explore what is happening on the inside. It is amazing the things that can happen when we bring space, curiosity, and compassion to the different parts and layers of our system.
My focus
I work with adults with all manner of challenges, including anxiety, depression, personal authenticity, and crisis.
My communication style
I create a nonjudgmental present focused space.
My journey to mental healthcare
As an undergraduate, I felt pressured to get a degree to get a job. This was a challenge because I struggled with depression and wasn't sure I wanted a job. With much self-exploration, I determined that I really wanted to be an epic world traveler. So instead of entering the job market, I traveled the world, spent a year in South America, and sailed across the Atlantic Ocean. After extensive travels, I concluded I did not know what it meant to be human. To best answer this question, I endeavored to create lasting relationships and learn how to meet needs directly. I tried to start a community, got married, built an off-grid cabin, and learned to grow my own food. I took up meditation and realized how important communication skills are when working in close proximity to others. My passion for trying to understand my internal experience and my passion for connecting and communicating with others ultimately led me back to school to pursue a degree in counseling.
