Hi there, I'm Dora!

The name's Dora, like the explorer, but instead of maps, I navigate emotions. I'm a licensed social worker in Florida, Virginia, and Vermont. I earned my Masters from the University of South Florida and have been honing my craft for about 6 years now. Just like Pam from The Office finding her footing in the Dunder Mifflin world, my passion lies in supporting young adults facing career stress and burnout, helping them unlock their fullest potential. Let's embark on this journey together towards becoming the best versions of ourselves.

My approach

As your seasoned therapist, I'm like the Michael Scott of the therapy world, leading you through the Dunder Mifflin of your mind with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as my trusty Dwight Schrute. Together, we're like Jim and Pam, navigating the ups and downs of your thoughts with humor and heart. Just like Michael's "World's Best Boss" mug, I empower you to embrace your quirks and conquer your challenges. With ACT, we're not just surviving, we're thriving, like a Dundie-winning team! So, grab your coffee mug (or tea, I don't judge), because we're about to embark on a journey through the Scranton of your psyche, where self-compassion reigns supreme and personal growth is our creed. Let's turn those "that's what she said" moments into "that's what I accomplished" victories!

My focus

My clients come to me for a variety of topics/issues that focus on military trauma, LGBTQA+, sex workers, to generational/religious trauma.

My communication style

What sets me apart in my worldview perspective is my diverse experience across different populations. I've worked extensively with older adults in aging services, witnessing firsthand the challenges of caregiver burnout and the complexities it entails. Additionally, my time in a correctional facility allowed me to engage with young adults facing issues such as suicidal ideation, homelessness, domestic violence, and complex trauma. Drawing from my military background as an active duty member and now as a military spouse, I bring a unique understanding of the military population. As a contractor, I focused on domestic abuse cases and prevention within military communities. This breadth of experience informs my approach to therapy, allowing me to tailor my support to each individual's specific needs. My biggest strengths lie in my ability to blend humor, compassion, and a down-to-earth, non-judgmental approach. Plus, I'm not afraid to drop a well-placed F-bomb when the situation calls for it.

My journey to mental healthcare

When I was in the military, I wanted to serve in a different capacity after my first enlistment was completed. I became passionate about helping those individuals who needed an ear, or someone to talk through an issue without judgment. I wanted to become someone I needed that I didn't have at my lowest point in life. So here we are now, continuing to pursue this very fulfilling career.

My goals for you

I enjoy working together to find realistic goals to help get you to a place where you are feeling better and more confident. You will not be alone in this journey. Goal setting can be scary because change is scary. We will take it a step at a time.

My first session with you

During our initial session, my focus is on understanding you and your unique needs. I'll walk you through the therapeutic process, discuss expectations, and establish clear boundaries. Creating a stress-free, warm, and welcoming environment is my priority. Life can be overwhelming, and my aim is to alleviate rather than add to that stress. Let's make our sessions something you can look forward to.
