Charla White, Psy.D. - Licensed Clinical Psychologist (Virginia and District of Columbia). My goal as a therapist is to help my clients overcome barriers that impede their ability to reach their potential at any age.
My approach
My therapeutic approach is client-centered and specific to the individual. My theoretical background includes Cognitive Behavioral, Mindfulness, and Writing Exposure therapies.
My focus
My client base is adults 18-65+. I treat individuals with a variety of mental health and emotional concerns including ADHD, depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, marital discord, bipolar, work-related stress, grief, and age-related cognitive disorders. I also conduct ADHD, bariatric, and Social Security evaluations.
My communication style
It is my desire to create an environment of trust, openness, and curiosity that allows the client's story/history to unfold over time.
My journey to mental healthcare
My biggest influence in the world of mental health/ therapy was my mother. As the mother of eight children, she took time individually with each of us to tap into our abilities and interests to not only help provide insight into who each of us was as children but also to let us see our potential beyond this capsule of time.
My goals for you
After completing the initial assessment, which can be 1-2 sessions I would begin the goal setting with the client.
My first session with you
During the first session, I provide an overview of what they should expect during the session. I allow the client to tell their story uninterrupted and I take notes quietly and summarize their concerns afterward and ensure that I have accurately reflected them and allow them to ask questions as needed.
