My name is Candice Arkon, and I am a Licence Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) based in Spanish Fork, Utah; I work statewide via telehealth. I work with adults who are suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, medical issues, and trauma.
My approach
Every individual brings a unique set of issues and strengths to the counseling process. It has always been my approach to assist them in developing creative solutions to resolve their problems and learn how to advocate for themselves. Working at a substance abuse facility taught me the significance of creating strong therapeutic relationships. As a former educator, I understand how psycho-education can empower individuals to make positive changes. Additionally, I have been honored to witness individuals process their trauma and move past it, which has taught me the importance of hope. I take pride in continuously learning and staying abreast of the latest research and best practices to deliver the best possible outcomes. My training includes elements of Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I’m enrolled in a trauma certificate program at The Trauma Research Foundation.
My focus
I've had the privilege of working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and age groups, addressing their unique therapeutic needs. My experience encompasses catering to clients dealing with mood disorders, attachment wounds, anxiety-related issues, chronic illnesses, substance abuse problems, suicidal ideation, grief, and trauma. I bring a wealth of life experience. I understand how trauma can impact the whole family, the struggle of living with chronic pain and adolescent depression, and the impact addiction has within a family.
My communication style
My communication style is open and honest. I understand the importance of providing an environment that feels safe and without judgment. I appreciate my client's perceptions, beliefs, and the challenges they face.
My journey to mental healthcare
Curiosity is what attracted me to this career and is what drives me in my work. I was curious to understand myself as well as family members who have mental illnesses. I was in my undergraduate program while my mother was finishing her graduate program in clinical social work. She inspired me and championed my journey to becoming a clinical mental health counselor.
My goals for you
Goal setting is an integral part of therapy and should be done collaboratively. Goal setting helps clarify priorities, discuss expectations, and measure progress. It’s also a great way to measure growth and celebrate accomplishments. The goals should be personal and flexible.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session is me getting to know what brings you to therapy. Asking questions helps me understand your challenges, gather background information, and understand where we need to go in therapy. The first session is also a great time to ask me questions and see if we’re a good fit.
