Hi there, I'm LaDawn!

My name is LaDawn Lowder. I am a licensed clinical social worker. My first approach to therapy is to start where the client is at. “How many therapists does it take to change a lightbulb?........... The number is irrelevant the lightbulb has to want to change!”

My approach

My first approach is to see what is motivating my clients to reach out for assistance in their life. I want to give them praise for having had the courage to take the first step which is to act on the self-awareness that as humans we need help sometimes. I have many different therapeutic modalities CBT, ACT, DBT, EMDR, and am always educating myself with more tools and approaches. I work with the client and find out what they feel is the best fit for them and even if they feel that I am not the best fit for them I want them to continue to seek out assistance in finding balance and mental wellness.

My focus

I started my career with court-order clients which has provided me with almost a decade's worth of diverse experiences working with people from every walk of life, a wide range of mental health diagnoses, and severe trauma survivors. My focus in sessions is post-traumatic growth and learning self-awareness on how to grow through all of life’s challenging obstacles.

My communication style

I strive to keep my communication style always professional and will vary according to the age, communication style, and preference of the client. I put my energy into creating a relaxed, humor-filled environment where clients feel safe to show their humanness and vulnerabilities. I feel I have a kind and compassionate communication style, however, do not hesitate to have clear and empathetic conversations with clients when their behaviors are unhealthy or self-sabotaging.

My journey to mental healthcare

My motivation was to be able to better understand my own intense emotions and how to manage them in a healthier way. Once I discovered how to help myself more, I wanted to share what I had learned with everyone. Every client I work with is one more opportunity for me to make the world a more peaceful place.

My goals for you

I take a direct approach to goal setting and education. Encouraging the client towards a healthy growth mindset and developing actionable steps in achieving healthy life goals. Clients will be taught tools to use to achieve their goals and work with the client to find the best approach to take with them in order for them to be successful in their goals and ultimately their lives.

My first session with you

Honesty and education of the therapeutic process. I do full transparency with my clients so that there are no surprises or unrealistic expectations in treatment. Therapy is a lot of work in building self-awareness and working towards taking actionable steps to build and maintain a healthy mind and lifestyle.
