I strive to meet the client where they are and use what they love to help them build skills. I love helping teens and young adults become the person they want to be one level at a time.
My approach
I use evidence-based modalities, such as DBT, CBT, and experiential learning. I also use pop culture (roll credits), geek speak, and media to better teach therapeutic concepts.
My focus
I typically work with teens and young adults (13-30). I work with suicidal thoughts, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and adjustments to different life events. I have worked with grief and other disorders as well.
My communication style
I believe I have an open communication style. I have been told that I can call out clients for issues they are trying to avoid. I believe my office is welcoming and comfortable. I use things you are interested in to help you understand therapy terms.
My journey to mental healthcare
I found my passion for working with teens during my internship. I have worked in many different settings including inpatient hospitals, residential, and IOP. I received my degree from the University of Phoenix. I was told during school that I was not going to be a normal therapist. Over the years I have leaned into that. I identifies as a Disney Adult, Potter Head, and all-around geek. I am fluent in video game terms, Disney song lyrics, and light saber colors. When I am not in the office, I am focused with my needle work, finding therapy ideas in movies and spending time with my fur-babies. I am married to a software engineer Jedi.
My goals for you
I hold the client accountable for the goals they set for themselves. I want goals to be achievable for the client.
My first session with you
We will go through paperwork, what to expect during sessions, questions for each other, and get to know each other.
