Matt Loveland-Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have been in practice for 24 years. I am a "straight shooter". I like to empower my clients with skills and insights into their thoughts, feelings and actions for the purpose of taking accountability and making changes for the future.
My approach
The therapeutic approach I most often use with my clients is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I likewise enjoy using solution focused therapy and psychodynamic approaches.
My focus
My specialty is men's issues. I have vast experience working with men on communication, feelings/expression problems (anger management), relationship issues, habit/addiction, and general life management. I am also comfortable treating depression, anxiety, minor PTSD, and stress.
My communication style
My personality is easy going therefore my counseling style is similar. I like to think of my myself as a "tour guide" who has been hired by my client. As the tour guide I can give some direction as to what we will explore, but ultimately it is up to the client to let me know where they want to go and what they want to see.
My journey to mental healthcare
I am driven to do this work because I believe in the human potential for greatness in all of us. We can all live better healthier lives. Therapy does not have all the answers. The therapist does not know everything, but there are skills and techniques that can bring out the better in all of us.
My goals for you
I believe this is a critical part of therapy. This allows the client and therapist to be on the same page and to make sure both parties are working for the same outcomes. Without goals direction is lacking. It may not be clear as to when/if desired therapy outcomes have been achieved.
My first session with you
I just want to get to know the client first and foremost. We will discuss the client's history and how they have arrived at this point in life. As part of this we will also discuss hobbies, interests, strengths and weaknesses. Finally, I will want to know their goals for therapy.
