Hi, I am Stacie Copsey, LCM
My approach
Hi, I am Stacie Copsey, LCMHC, born and raised in Utah, lived in Southern and Northern Cali for 5 yrs in the 80s and rural AZ for 5 yrs, before coming back home to live by my kids and grandkids. I love spending time in the Uintas or other mountain areas, reading, crochet (wish I was better) and collecting craft supplies:). My family is the most important thing to me and includes my dog and 2 cats.
My focus
Working with folks from 10 to the end are my fav ages, and almost any issues are welcome, I love variety! The clients I work with most often have anxiety and/or depression, but I also specialize in PTSD, addictive disorders, and life changes. Parents who are struggling will find expert advice from an experienced mom of 10 kids who made it to adulthood (or think they have).
My communication style
Each person in my office is greeted with acceptance, respect, and compassion. This is your space, and you deserve to be "safe" while talking with me. That doesn't mean I won't make mistakes, it means you can tell me I did and I can accept that and not do it again. I will occasionally give homework, but never grade it or you for doing it or not doing it. This is YOUR therapy not mine.
My journey to mental healthcare
Originally I was going to be a nurse in the PICU or NICU of a children's hospital. When my kids were older and it was time to go back to school, I was working in residential treatment with teens, and also fostering teen girls with mental health and addiction challenges so decided this was my mission. My goal is to help people overcome obstacles or redefine their lives in ways that are more fulfilling and functional. We all deserve to feel peace and contentment with ourselves even when we are growing and changing for the better.
My goals for you
All therapy requires a goal(s) to be set in the beginning: How will you know if the therapy is working? What in your life will be different? You get to set those goals, my job is to frame them in measurable, attainable words, for the insurance and you, so we will know what your progress is each month. An example; "I want to be happy." The ct is depressed and rates this as a 7 out of 10. The ct will reduce their depressive symptoms and mood to a 4 out of 10 in 3 months time.
My first session with you
The first session is always the most difficult, lots of questions to answer, and goal(s) to set. It can be really uncomfortable, especially if you are struggling a lot with something. At the end of the session, I always try to give you a task/homework that is easy to do and designed to help you get started toward resolving what you are working through.
